How it all started

Meeting Deepak Trivedi in the London Campus of AMOS

We are two second year students from AMOS SPORTS BUSINESS SCHOOL in Lyon. During this second year, we spent a semester in the London campus and this is where we met our professor Mr Deepak Trivedi. Aside of teaching us in mega event management, he is a management consultant, professional speaker, educator, and global ambassador for our school.

He has worked for the London and Rio olympic games, Deepak Trivedi also collaborates every year with the USTA (United States Tennis Association) which organises one of the most important grand slam tournament in the world, the US OPEN in New York

As part of our class on "mega events", Mr Trivedi gave us lecture on the US OPEN which gathers 700 000 people in Flushing Meadows in New York.

Sport is our passion, we were so inspired by this lecture and curious about discovering what a mega event like the US OPEN was, we created a project independently from the school and presented it to the administration of the school and Deepak. Surprised by our initiative, M.Deepak Trivedi proposed us to join him in New York for a few days during the 2019 US OPEN to attend to conferences, tennis matches, and interview important professionals in the sports business industry and discover the organization of a mega event and one of the most spectacular sport events in the world.

Passionate about Basketball and Football. AMOS is a great school and it matches perfectly my passion and my professional future I'm creating through this course. I had a few professional experiences in sales but also in the event industry and my goal is to work in fan experience and improve ways for the customers to be satisfied in sports events.

I'm lucky and grateful to be bilingual in both French and English since I was a child thanks to my family and I want to take advantage of it and work and travel all around the world.

That is why I chose to create the US OPEN Project with my friend Pierre in order to discover the American vision and how they succeed in mega sports events.

I am willing to learn how every culture organises their events in order to know how to adapt myself in any situation.

Sport has always been my passion, I have played many sports like football, handball, snowboarding, rugby and tennis.  I am particularly interested in sport business and sports management and I have chosen to make it my professional project by studying at AMOS. Today, with my school, I have the chance to participate voluntarily in the organization of many events such as: Mud Day, Run In Lyon, Fête des Tribus, Supercross de Lyon, Glory 47, Open Sport de Lyon...

I am really fascinated by Tennis and its elegance. In 2018, I had the chance to do an internship in sports events at the Open Sopra Steria de Lyon, an ATP 100 tournament.

With this project I want to enjoy every moment to discover what makes an amazing Grand Slam tournament and immerse myself in the atmosphere of a major US sports event.

About The USTA

A federation to govern and manage American tennis.

The USTA, (United States Tennis Association) aims to organize, develop and perpetuate tennis in the USA. Created in 1881 in New York, it has been organizing the US Open since that same year. According to vocalmedia.com, this tournament is the major event of the federation, it is an important source of revenu each year $369 million of profit for the US Open 2019.  In order to develop tennis in the country, the association donates 80% of its revenues to projects for the amateur and professional tennis. The USTA, is divided into 17 sections, each of them leads a region of the country. With this organization the association makes more efficient its field of action. The main will of the federation is to promote these ideas through their many events such as the US Open:

- Creating a community of tennis players and fans

- Diversity and inclusion

- Organize and train officials

- Increase the number of volunteers

- Developing players and the Net Generation.

In addition, USTA has a charitable section that uses the power of tennis and education to serve the dreams of underprivileged youth and people in difficulty. Founded in 2009, the foundation has increased its fundraising by more than 540 % and reached $7.4 million in 2019. This success is due in part by the work of Mr. Gordon Smith for nearly 10 years.

During this experience we spend in New York we will attend the annual seminars and conferences of the association.

Presentation of the US Open

The event with the most important audiance in the world

Created in 1881, the US Open, formerly called the US National Championships, is a annual Grand Slam tennis tournament in New York City's Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.

During the two-weeks, each year nearly 700,000 spectators come to watch the world's greatest men's and women's professional tennis player play on the hard courts of the US OPEN.

This tournament has an essential place on the ATP circuit (with prize money of $50.4 million) and also in the environment of American tennis. According to Forbes money, 80% of the competition's revenues will be used to finance projects for amateur and professional tennis in the country.

This connected event, brings together a community that for a single tournament can perform 18 million interactions about the tournament through different social networks. A world record for a Grand Slam tournament.

The success of this event depends largely on its organization, the US Open mobilizes a large number of volunteers every year. The volunteers are necessary for the smooth running of the event and are perceived by the organization as true ambassadors of the US Open brand.

The tournament also relies on its relationship with its sponsors and also on its "Branding". In order to sell itself throughout the world, the US Open has built an image with the personality of the city of New York. The US Open is more than a tennis tournament, it is a real showcase of the "Big Apple".

Thank you Mr. Deepak Trivedi

A new mentor

One of the goals of this project was to discover Deepak's professional life . His generosity allowed us to live a rich human and professional experience. We had the privilege of spending time with an inspiring and available person who helped us evolve our thinking, vision of the world, our relationships with the others and ourselves. We have grown from this experience and we will always be grateful for the opportunity we had and thankful towards Deepak for everything he did for us and the time he allowed to mentor us even with the amount of work he had to do. We also thank all the people we have met with Deepak, each of these meetings were amazing and we learnt so much from everyone, we will never forget it.

"Always surround yourself with the inspired, the motivated, the open minded, the passionate and the grateful." Mr. Deepak Trivedi
