We met Emmy Caporale, a journalist for tennis view magazine which is a very famous magazine in the world of tennis. Emmy started her career very young volunteering when she was a teenager.

She is today a very well known and respected journalist and expert in the tennis world.

She is a real encyclopaedia of tennis and it was amazing to see how passionate she was and all the information and knowledge she had.

Where did this passion come from ?

We interviewed Emmy and we were amazed at how it went , it was truly one of the most unique and emotional interview we have ever done.

To begin with, Emmy is a good friend of our professor Deepak Trivedi. Before we got to see her, when we arrived it felt like we knew Emmy for years ! It was immediately a friendly conversation and it was much easier for us to be natural. We were so surprised of her honesty and her kindness from such a respected and famous journalist.

She began to tell us about her history in the world of tennis since she was 15 years old.

Before the computer era we live in, there was no digital boards with all the scores and games at the US OPEN.

The scores and games were painted by hand and displayed on a huge board visible by everyone.

Emmy’s job was to give the scores to a painter and he painted the different games and scores on cards and other volunteers had to take these cards and display them in different courts for the audience to see it. It was a very important job because she had to be very precise, everything was hand painted and you couldn’t juste change it like on digital boards…

She volunteered from 8am to 10pm until the games were finished every day during the US OPEN. She loved doing this job and she did it for 5 years but unfortunately, when the digital boards came, the painters were no longer needed and Emmy’s job had come to an end.

In 1998, she started to volunteer for the tennis Hall of Fame ofk and she re organised all the tennis tape videos that were in the archives.

She worked to organise games with the vintage kits, vintage rackets, vintage balls and with the cards she used in her first job when she worked with the painters.

From 1999 to 2013, Emmy was part of the hall of fame museum which had the Davis Cup trophy and she had to promote the museum during the US OPEN with associating sports and culture by creating a real atmosphere around the history of tennis and the US OPEN.

Since 2014, Emmy writes for tennis view magazine. She has fantastic writing skills and experience in the tennis world to be a great tennis journalist.

She writes post game reports, player interviews, historical facts and other news stories related to tennis.

Her articles are even mentioned by famous journalists and appear on sports tv shows.

She told us about her techniques in order to write good articles.

First of all, when she watches a match, she writes everything play by play. She also notices the emotion of the player, the atmosphere, the game changing points, everything. By doing this, she can take a look back at the end of the game and give a critical opinion based on facts. That’s why she is a great journalist. If you love tennis, don’t hesitate to go on: www.tennisviewmag.com/article-author/emmy-caporale and check out her work.

Not only is she a great author, but Emmy is someone you can’t forget once you meet her. It was a fantastic and touching interview we had through her experiences and personal stories related to the tennis world. We can understand now what true passion is and the importance of being passionate about what you do in your life. Not only are you successful in your professional life, but also in your personal life by being inspirational to others like Emmy was to us.

We truly thank Emmy Caporale for the time she gave us despite her tight schedule.
